Matthew Sherwood is best known for his rich mixed-media paintings made from traditional and found materials. Sherwood grew up in the suburbs of Dayton Ohio with regular trips to Arkansas to visit extended family and rural farm life. Earning a Bachelor’s of Fine Art Degree in Painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art, and a Master’s Degree in Painting at Towson University; jobs now as an Adjunct teacher help to support the studio practice.

Showing locally and internationally there have been many opportunities to view his work. With humor and passion Sherwood’s unique blend of representational painting with the fantastical; rewards viewers with approachable narratives that ask personal questions. While painting stays the core of his practice, sculpture, installation and other artforms also work their way in. Devoted to working with his own hands to find creative solutions, Sherwood also is a partner in a co-owned local furniture company specializing in live-edge wood and steel fabrication; Vanscoy Wade and CO.
